Overview

The brief.

Volta Studio came to me with a clear problem — they had strong work but a brand that didn't reflect it. Their existing identity was generic, forgettable, and said nothing about what made them different from every other creative studio competing for the same clients.

The brief was to build a brand identity from the ground up — a visual system that felt bold and confident without being loud, that communicated craft and precision, and that could scale across print, digital, and motion without losing coherence.

The Challenge

Finding the space between clinical and beautiful.

The premium skincare market has two dominant visual languages — the clinical (white, sans-serif, almost pharmaceutical) and the luxurious (gold, serif, maximalist). Both were wrong for Cove. Clinical would have undermined the brand's warmth. Luxurious would have contradicted its commitment to simplicity and efficacy. The challenge was building a visual identity that lived in the space between them — credible enough for a dermatologist, beautiful enough for a bathroom shelf.

the solution

Restraint as a brand statement.

The identity uses a single warm off-white as its primary surface — not medical white, not cream, something in between. The typography is a refined grotesque used at two weights only — the contrast between heavy and light doing the work that most beauty brands do with color and decoration. The logo is a wordmark in the lightest possible weight — almost fragile — which creates a tension with the confident, heavy headlines used in communication. The overall effect is a brand that whispers its confidence rather than announcing it.
